Liverpool's 17-year-old PRODIGY makes it 11 goals in 15 with winning brace

Liverpool youngster Kieran Morrison extended his wonderful goal record for the Under 18s with a match-winning brace on Saturday. The Reds have another huge talent on their books.

Liverpool Under 18s went into the fixture with Sunderland on Saturday knowing they needed to turn things around. A streak of six games without a win had to be stopped – especially when only two of those games were draws.

Things didn’t look good when Sunderland went in front, but captain Keiran Morrison stepped up to turn things around. Morrison scored both – including an 80th-minute winner – to snap the streak.

With that Morrison bagged his 11th goal in the U18s Premier League. It’s a phenomenal run for a player who isn’t even a striker – the 17-year-old has firmly learned how to score goals at this level.

Naturally, this will be his final season with the U18s and Morrison is expected to step up into the Under 21s for the 2024/25 season. From there, he’ll have his eyes on the senior side – and may well be the next academy graduate to get a debut.

Kieran Morrison’s future

Liverpool have promoted a tonne of academy players under Jurgen Klopp – a record-setting number, in fact. It will be interesting to see how that changes under the new manager.

After all, every boss has a different comfort level with it and new managers tend to step away from the risk. That may work against Morrison, who would almost certainly get some sort of look next season if Klopp were hanging around.

But there’s no rush. Morrison is still only 17 and can spend a couple of seasons in the U21s without much worry. What can’t be avoided is the hype, though, and that’s growing rapidly.

If Morrison replicates his U18 form whatsoever, he’s going to be firmly in the spotlight for a long time to come.
