Liverpool transfer news: 10-goal target jumps £51m in value

Liverpool have seen a reported transfer target leap £51m in value over the course of this season. But it might not put them off.

SportBild reports that Eintracht Frankfurt will ask for up to £51m this summer to sell Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian has been a revelation over the course of the season – and could leave at the end of it.

Marmoush has 10 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga and should hit 20 goals and assists once the campaign is done. That form has pushed his value up to around £51m.

But Frankfurt didn’t pay anything like that to sign him last summer. In fact, they didn’t pay anything at all – Marmoush arrived on a free transfer after leaving Wolfsburg.

He was tasked with the almost impossible job of replacing Randal Kolo Muani. The Frenchman left for Paris Saint-Germain after a sole season with Frankfurt. Much like Marmoush, Kolo Muani had arrived at the German side on a free transfer.

And he’s succeeded in replacing him. Now Marmoush is set for a big transfer of his own, though – and Liverpool are on the list of interested clubs.

Liverpool like Omar Marmoush

Liverpool have got to be a little careful here, however. Marmoush ticks a lot of right boxes – he’s creative, scores goals, presses well, and likes running with the ball – but he’s also a striker from Frankfurt.

They’ve got an incredible knack there for getting the most out of players. Before Marmoush there was Kolo Muani, before him there was Andre Silva. Before him there was Sebastian Haller and Luka Jovic.

All left Frankfurt for massive fees after extraordinary goalscoring seasons. Absolutely none of them replicated that form at their new club.

That’s not to say that Marmoush couldn’t be a successful signing. But if Liverpool were to pay a big fee for him and see him justify it with his performances, the transfer would buck a trend that’s going back quite a few years now.
