Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown is quietly having one of the best seasons of his career with Boston, despite sacrificing raw numbers to help create opportunities for his fellow teammates on a star-studded roster. The Georgia native credits a transformation in his processing of the game for the elevation of his play.

“I think we are very good at shooting 3s, and I think a part of my job, my responsibility, is to get to the paint to collapse the defense to make sure we get open looks,” explained Brown of his role with the Celtics on offense this season.

The Cal alum says he feels “like the game has slowed down (for me), definitely seeing where to be aggressive and where to make the right plays, (and) the right possessions.”

It’s been showing up on the court, with Brown finding his teammates often enough to push his assist average to a career-high 3.7 assists per game even as his scoring and rebounding averages are taking a hit due to the more egalitarian nature of this year’s team.

“You’ve just got to let the game decide where the ball is going to go,” said Brown. “You let the game decide where the advantages are, and we play through that.”
