Storm Jocelyn: Lincolnshire to be hit with more winds as fresh weather warning issued

More winds are expected just days after the chaos brought by Storm Isha

Another storm is set to batter Lincolnshire and the rest of the UK just days after Storm Isha caused widespread disruption. The new storm, named Storm Jocelyn by the Irish Met Office, will bring a spell of strong winds that will affect the whole county.

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place from 12pm on Tuesday, January 23 to 3pm on Wednesday, January 24. The warning covers the entirety of Lincolnshire and delays are expected to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Elsewhere in the UK, rain warnings have been issued in preparation for Storm Jocelyn as well as an amber wind warning in parts of Scotland. The UK is on track for its record breaking worst ever year for storms since records began, reports The Mirror.

Back in 2015/16, when meteorologists started to name storms, Storm Katie reached the furthest along the alphabet of names. This year, the country has already suffered through nine successive storms, with the possibility of a tenth just around the corner.

Stephen Dixon, a spokesperson for the Met Office, told the Mirror: “Since we’ve been naming storms the furthest we’ve got through the alphabet of names is Katie – which happened in March 2016. In the first storm naming year we got to Storm Katie. And obviously we’ve just had Isha, the next storm would be Jocelyn, then Kathleen after that.

“We got to Katie in the 2015/16 storm season, and in that year, the storm for I which was Imogen hit in February, so we’re ahead of that. The thing to note is that it’s quite variable, in terms of storms we named last year we only had two named storms ourselves.

“There were a couple of other storms that glanced the UK, including Otto and Noah, that were named by other agencies. Storms are variable by nature, we get peaks of troughs of storm activity.”
