UFC 1 was held in 1993, which shows how quickly time flies. More 30 years later, UFC 300 is taking place Saturday in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena and being celebrated with an offering that president Dana White is calling “the greatest card ever assembled in combat sports history.”

White has been adamant that every match in UFC 300 could be a headliner. Indeed, the matchups are impressive, with all 13 featuring a hook and a household name in the MMA world.

UFC 300 will be headlined by a light heavyweight duel between newly crowned champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira, which translates to “Hands of Stone,” and top contender Jamahal Hill, who has only lost once in 14 fights. It will be Pereira’s first title defense since becoming the ninth fighter in UFC history to win a championship in separate weight classes.

A second championship is also in play as Zhang Weili puts her strawweight title on the line against Yan Xionan in the first meeting between China’s top female fighters. Weili is the first Chinese champion in UFC history.

Other UFC 300 highlights include the MMA debut of two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison, who will fight legendary former boxer Holly Holm, most famous in MMA circles for handing Ronda Rousey her first loss. Justin Gaethje looks to deny Max Holloway in arguably the evening’s most exciting matchup since there won’t be much dancing around before they come for one another’s throat. They’re fighting for the “BMF” title and are worthy candidates.

Pereira, a Brazilian former kickboxer, has seen his star rise because he’s a legitimate knockout artist. He beat Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title less than a year-and-a-half ago before losing it back to him this past April, marking the only time he’s been knocked out in UFC. Five months ago, Pereira defeated Jiri Prochazka via a second-round TKO to claim the vacant light heavyweight crown.

Hill, the former champion, had to relinquish that title after tearing his Achilles in mid-July, so he’s back to claim what he feels is rightfully his. The expectation here is that the combination of Pereira’s pugilistic powers and kickboxing prowess will prove to be too much for Hill in his return.

UFC 300 odds: Gaethje vs. Holloway ‘BMF’ prediction

Gaethje has stated that he doesn’t plan “on being alive” after fights and prefers that Holloway suffer an injury that keeps him from continuing as opposed to making him submit, so that’s where the “Highlight’s” head is that.

Holloway is a legend in his own right and has it in him to go the distance and put on a show, but I’m not sure he’s got the power to significantly hurt Gaethje. These are two of only seven ranked fighters who average more than seven significant strikes per minute, and I expect the favorite to do more damage even if both are as busy as advertised and put on a show.

Kayla Harrison vs. Holly Holm UFC 300 odds, prediction

Holm last fought in July, and although she’s in the middle of a fairly new six-fight contract, this has the feel of her being in this position as a big name to help legitimize the emerging Harrison, who was part of the Professional Fighters League but is a star in the industry given her pedigree. Four of Holm’s six MMA losses have come by decision, but this one should end before it goes to the cards.

UFC 300 odds: Figueiredo vs. Garbrandt prediction

The opener features the “God of War” Deiveson Figueiredo, a former flyweight champion, squaring off with Cody Garbrandt, a former bantamweight champ. These two were expected to duel in 2020 for Figueiredo’s title before Garbrandt was forced to pull out, and this should be an exciting first appetizer to get things started. We should see both fighters have their moments, but Figueiredo is more polished and should ultimately pick up a clear decision.
