lightning strike causes delays on kelana jaya lrt line

KUALA LUMPUR: The Light Rail Transit (LRT) service on the Kelana Jaya Line is currently operating with limited trains due to a system failure caused by a lightning strike to the power supply.

The incident, reported to have occurred at 3.30pm, has prevented additional trains from the Subang LRT Depot from being deployed for peak hour operations.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said that, due to this disruption, the LRT service on the Kelana Jaya Line was operating with train frequencies of 4 to 5 minutes.

Several facilities, such as escalators, lights, and elevators at three LRT stations — Kelana Jaya, Taman Bahagia, and Taman Jaya — are not functioning.

However, passengers could still use the LRT services as usual at these stations, it said in a statement on Tuesday (April 16).

Passengers were advised to use the following alternative routes: take the LRT from KL Sentral to Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Muzium Negara or the KL Sentral monorail, use the LRT from Dang Wangi to reach the Bukit Nanas Monorail, go from LRT KLCC to MRT Persiaran KLCC, or travel from LRT Ampang Park to MRT Ampang Park.

Rapid Rail engineers were actively doing restoration work, with further updates to be provided via media statements and on Rapid KL’s social media platforms.

Auxiliary police and station staff had been stationed at platforms and station concourses to assist with passenger movement.

Regular announcements were also being made on the platforms.
