EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers won a big game on Tuesday night.
Despite having a 3-1 lead, the Oilers managed to squander it – but still win the game. Zach Hyman played the hero in the 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets in overtime.
To get there, the Oilers received scoring contributions from Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor Brown. Brown’s goal was the team’s second of the game, that caused them to first gain a lead.
Brown’s goal against the Jets was his third in six games – after not scoring any for the first 54 games this year. This latest goal of his was interesting in it’s own right.
After Corey Perry grabbed Brown’s stick right out of his hands while Brown had one leg over the boards. Eventually Perry came back with Brown’s game stick – Brown threw the replacement stick he grabbed back into the bench – then hopped on the ice, collected the puck and sniped home his third goal in six games.
One of Brown’s teammates isn’t surprised that Brown has found the net multiple times – in fact he predicted the out burst back on the night that Brown scored his first of the season.
On March 13th, the Oilers won against the Washington Capitals by a 7-2 score. Brown scored the seventh goal for the Oilers, to a standing ovation of the Oilers fans in attendance.
After the game Draisaitl was asked about Brown’s first goal of the season, “very happy to see him score, wouldn’t be surprised if he opened the floodgates a little bit.”
