Latvia is preparing to send the first batch of drones to Ukraine as part of a coalition of drones, according to the Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Silina.
“The drones are ready, the kind that our Ukrainian colleagues have asked for,” Prime Minister Evika Silina said after the Latvian government meeting.
According to the Prime Minister, the drones will be delivered to Ukraine “in the near future”.
At the same time, the agency notes that Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds refused to provide details on how many drones and what type will be sent in the first batch.
Coalition of drones
On December 12, 2023, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and his Latvian counterpart Andris Spruds discussed the creation of a drone coalition.
As Spruds said in January, more than 20 countries have already joined the drone coalition, including:
Sweden; Denmark Germany Lithuania Estonia; The Netherlands. According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, a group of NATO countries wants to provide one million drones to Ukrainian soldiers as part of military aid.
According to Umerov, the drone coalition was officially launched on February 17.
