Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

HULU SELANGOR: Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman will be the first lawmaker to receive an expulsion letter from Bersatu for declaring support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Hamzah said that Suhaili will lose his status as a parliamentarian and there will be a by-election in Labuan.

“Just wait, because soon, you will be the first person that we will issue a letter stating that you have ceased to be a member of Bersatu.

“This means that according to present laws, he loses his Parliamentarian status and God-willing, there will be a by-election in Labuan,” said Hamzah during a ceramah at Batang Kali on Thursday (May 9) night.

Hamzah also said there will soon be by-elections in the other five parliament constituencies – Gua Musang, Jeli, Bukit Gantang, Kuala Kangsar, and Tanjong Karang.

Hamzah criticised Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abdul Fasal for pledging support to Anwar for personal gain.

“This is the story, he came to see me and told me ‘brother don’t worry, I’m with you and I will not quit. I’m with Bersatu’. This was in the morning. In the afternoon, when he entered Parliament, he announced that he supports Anwar,” said Hamzah.

At the same time, Hamzah also warned Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi that he will face a formidable challenge from Perikatan if by-elections are called there.

Bersatu’s special general assembly on March 2 had agreed to amend the party constitution to automatically revoke the membership of MPs and state assemblymen who backed other parties.

To date, six MPs and a sole assemblyman from Bersatu – Datuk Abdul Rashid Ashari – pledged support to the unity government.

The other three Bersatu MPs were Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

Later in his speech, Hamzah also urged Chinese voters to back Perikatan, saying that it is untrue that the coalition only consists of Malays.

“We gave many seats to Chinese candidates in the recent elections but they lost because the Chinese didn’t vote for them.

We placed a Malay here because we know that the Chinese don’t want (us). We fielded many Chinese candidates and we lost many seats because the Chinese don’t want to vote for Perikatan,” said Hamzah.

Hamzah also urged locals in Kuala Kubu Baharu to convince their friends and family members to vote for Perikatan.

“DAP will lose in KKB when the time comes,” said Hamzah.

KKB will be a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Perikatan’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin, and independent Nyau Ke Xin.
