La tienda de discos más grande del Caribe sobrevive por la música colombiana y africana

Barranquilla (Colombia), 3 may (EFE).- Entre las calles y la cotidianidad del centro histórico de Barranquilla una tienda guarda un tesoro de miles de discos que incluye la más grande colección de música caribeña y afrocolombiana.

Shane Butrón, propietario de Discolombia, última sucursal de la que fue una cadena de tiendas musicales, tiene una colección de unos 10.000 discos que hizo que fuera reconocida en 2016 por The Vinyl Factory como la décima mejor tienda de vinilos del mundo y definida como un lugar especial para conseguir “reliquias latinas”.

Según Butrón, lo que más vende son los discos de salsa y música africana usados en los sistemas de sonido que ambientan las calles y fiestas de las ciudades y pueblos del Caribe colombiano, conocidos popularmente como ‘picós’.

Tesoro musical caribeño

Más allá de los títulos comerciales o populares, la tienda tiene material por el que suelen llegar compradores de otras partes del mundo: la música folclórica del Caribe y la africana, ambas grabadas o licenciadas por Felito Records.

“Lo que más compra el extranjero es la música folclórica de aquí: las cumbias, los vallenatos y cosas como Ramayá Beltrán, Dolcey Gutiérrez o La Niña Emilia”, afirma Butrón a EFE.

La discográfica Felito Records, creada en la década de 1970 por Félix Butrón, abuelo de Shane, le dio a muchos artistas la oportunidad de grabar su música en unos estudios propios en Barranquilla.

Gracias a esto nacieron composiciones populares como ‘No me maten’, ‘Coroncoro’, ‘La camisa rayá’ y ‘Las cuatro fiestas’, considerada como una canción insignia de la Navidad en el Caribe colombiano.

Al mismo tiempo, el sello hizo recopilaciones de música africana que incluyeron canciones como la camerunesa ‘Zangalewa’, de Golden Sounds, y ‘Bakuba Show’, del congoleño Pepe Kalle, que inspiraron la creación de la champeta, un ritmo popular del norte de Colombia.

“Hay muchos temas (de la discográfica) que han gustado en Europa. Por ejemplo, hay un tema de Dolcey Gutierrez llamado ‘Calabá, calabao’ que es una fusión de música colombiana y música africana”, explica Butrón.

La historia detrás de la tienda

Discolombia es la última sucursal de una cadena que llegó a tener 25 tiendas repartidas en el país.

“En el año 1963 comenzaron los primeros almacenes”, afirma Butrón, quien lamenta que la piratería musical haya llevado a la decadencia la red, que sobrevive gracias al auge del vinilo en los últimos años.

Butrón se sabe de memoria la ubicación de los discos y cuando el solicitado no está en los mostradores se sumerge en una bodega oscura donde hay miles de vinilos apilados y de la que extrae los buscados por los clientes.

“La bodega quedaba antes en otro lugar, pero con el tiempo, al crecer la cadena, se consiguió este local más amplio”, cuenta el propietario.
