De forma inédita, la próxima semana Santiago será sede una reservada cumbre que involucrará a los principales organismos internacionales del mundo, encabezada por el secretario general de Naciones Unidas.

El 2 y 3 de mayo se llevará a cabo en un hotel de Vitacura la primera Sesión Regular del año del United Nations System Chief Executives Board of Coordination (CEB, o Junta de Jefes Ejecutivos del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas para la Coordinación), que presidirá António Guterres, secretario general de la ONU, y que espera reunir a la mayoría de los jefes de agencias internacionales.

El CEB proporciona una “amplia orientación, coordinación y dirección estratégica para el sistema de las Naciones Unidas en las áreas bajo la responsabilidad de los jefes ejecutivos. Se centra en las prioridades e iniciativas interinstitucionales, velando al mismo tiempo porque se mantengan los mandatos independientes de las organizaciones”, explica en su sitio web.

De acuerdo con distintas fuentes, además de Guterres, a Santiago llegarían, entre otros, el director general de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), Gilbert Houngbo; la directora general de la Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; el alto comisionado de Derechos Humanos de la ONU, Volker Türk; el director general del Organismo Internacional de Energía Atómica (OEIA), Rafael Grossi; el director de la Organización para la Alimentación y Agricultura (FAO), Qu Dongyu; el presidente del Banco Mundial, Ajay Banga; la directora gerente del Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI), Kristalina Georgieva; el administrador global del Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), Achim Steiner; el director del Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA); y la directora general de la Unesco, Audrey Azoulay. Esta última participará también en el Día Mundial de la Libertad de Prensa 2024, que se celebrará en Santiago del 2 y 4 de mayo. El 2 de mayo, además, Guterres tendrá un encuentro con el Presidente Gabriel Boric.

De acuerdo con la organización, estos personeros se reúnen dos veces al año para examinar las cuestiones políticas y de gestión que afectan a las organizaciones del sistema de las Naciones Unidas. La CEB coopera con otros organismos interinstitucionales, como la Comisión de Administración Pública Internacional y la Dependencia Común de Inspección, así como con el Grupo de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo Sostenible.

La segunda reunión de 2023, realizada en Nueva York en noviembre, tocó temas como el uso de la inteligencia artificial para el bien común y el cambio climático. Además, se alertó sobre la polarización en el mundo.
