La nueva niña prodigio da el gran golpe en el Open de Australia para alegría de Rafa Nadal

En la web oficial de la WTA, la organización que rige el circuito profesional femenino, su perfil tiene como imagen una silueta recortada, el recurso ante la falta de una fotografía oficial. Imperdonable porque la rusa Alina Korneeva merece una atención especial. Su trayectoria así lo refleja. Apunta como una de las posibles estrellas a no muy largo plazo.

No es una desconocida en el mundo del tenis. Con 15 años reinó en 2023 en el júnior del Open de Australia y de Roland Garros, concluyó la temporada com nº 1 mundial sub-18. Ganó un ITF100 profesional con doble 6-0 a su rival en la final. A los 16 ha vuelto a dar un gran golpe en Melbourne, pero ya en el cuadro absoluto.

Debutó en WTA Tour el pasado octubre superando la fase previa y ganando un partido en el cuadro principal del WTA de Hong Kong.

En Melbourne superó la criba de la previa para poder debutar en un cuadro absoluto de Grand Slam, siendo además la más joven participante. Adornó su ya de por sí gran resultado con un triunfo en su estreno en un ‘grande’. Cazó además a una experimentada rival, la española Sara Sorribes, 27 años y nº 33 mundial.

La castellonense fue víctima de la pujanza de Korneeva, de tiros ganadores, que fue poco a poco ganando terreno según iba ganando calma y confianza. Venció la rusa por 4-6, 6-3 y 6-2.

Para Rafa Nadal, la alegría de que una tenista de su Rafa Nadal Academy sea protagonista, aunque hubiera preferido que la víctima no fuese una española. Korneeva ha hecho la pretemporada en Manacor, asesorada por técnicos del centro como la capitana española de BJK Cup, Anabel Medina. En las antípodas también cuenta con el apoyo del grupo desplazado de la academia.

En Rusia tiene como entrenadora principal a Julia Bekeshchenko, una segunda madre para ella porque fue quien se fijó en sus habilidades cuando tenía 6 años y fue a una prueba en el club Spartak de Moscú. El padre de la nueva niña prodigio fue bronce olímpico en Pekín 2008 con la selección rusa de voleibol.

Korneeva coincidió en el colegio con la segunda tenista más joven del Open de Australia, Mirra Andreeva, de 16 años y que ya es 47 del mundo tras hacer tercera ronda en Roland Garros y octavos en Wimbledon. Una eclosión en 2023 que intenta seguir Alina, que sí pudo con su compatriota en la final del júnior de Australia 2023. Otra chica de 16 años a seguir es la checa Brenda Fruhvirtova. Forman un trío interesante de futuro.

Tiene como ídolo a Rafa Nadal, su referencia es Serena Williams. A los 16 pisa fuerte, ya conoce el triunfo en un Grand Slam. Próxima prueba, la brasileña Beatriz Haddad Maia o la checa Linda Fruhvirtova.
