- New South Carolina poll puts Trump ahead of Nikki Haley at a 2:1 margin
- Comes days before voters in the early primary state head to the polls Saturday
- READ: Haley said in a Tuesday speech she is ‘far from’ exiting the 2024 race
Donald Trump is poised to heavily defeat remaining competitor Nikki Haley in South Carolina’s primary on Saturday, according to the latest polling.
In nearly two to one odds, Trump, 77, is ahead of former United Nations Amb. Haley, 52, in her home state, which holds the fourth and final early contest of the Republican primary after Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.
The results come after Haley’s state of the race speech on Tuesday where she insisted she is ‘far from’ dropping out and will remain in the race until Super Tuesday on March 5 despite calls for her to end her bid for the White House.
Trump said during a Fox News town hall in Greenville, South Carolina on Tuesday evening that Haley ‘can’t get herself to get out’ of the race.
‘I don’t think she knows how to get out, actually,’ he added.
Among likely Republican voters polled by Suffolk University/USA Today, 63 percent say they will cast their primary election ballot for Trump on Saturday, February 24.
The latest polling from South Carolina puts Donald Trump 30% ahead of Nikki Haley just days before the primary election
Haley blasted Trump during her campaign speech in Greenville ahead of the South Carolina primary on Saturday
Thirty-five percent say they are voting for Haley, who was governor of South Carolina from January 2011 until January 2017, when she joined Trump’s administration.
Surprisingly, Trump is still leading Haley among military families in the Palmetto State at a slightly larger margin than the overall standing with 65 percent for him and 33 percent for Haley.
This comes despite Trump mocking earlier this month his competitor’s husband, Major Michael Haley, who is on a year-long deployment in the Horn of Africa with the Army National Guard.
‘What happened to her husband? Where is he?’ Trump asked at a rally in Conway, South Carolina. ‘He’s gone.’
Haley has responded several times since then claiming Trump is taking a swipe at all members of the military with his latest jab.
Notably, former first lady Melania Trump has been absent from the campaign trail and has not appeared at one campaign event with her husband since he announced his 2024 bid.
The latest polling from Suffolk/USA Today is in line with the average tracking of surveys in the South Carolina primary election from FiveThirtyEight, which has Trump at 63.5 percent and Haley at 33.5 percent.
Haley still does hold a wider lead among voters in South Carolina that identify as liberal or moderate with a 59 percent to 38 percent preference over the former president.
She is also narrowly leading Trump in the category of those who are voting in the Republican primary for the first time by a 51 percent to 49 percent margin.
Donald Trump said at a Fox News town hall in South Carolina on Tuesday that Haley is still in the 2024 race because she ‘doesn’t know how to get out’
One of Haley’s biggest arguments against Trump’s presidency is his age.
She has repeatedly said both Trump and President Joe Biden, 81, are at risk of dementia and should be required to take cognitive tests to see if they are still mentally fit for office.
‘I think if you ask any doctor, they will tell you that when you are getting in your 80s, you are prone to having that [dementia],’ Haley told NewsNation in a Tuesday evening interview when asked about the mental state of Biden and Trump at their advanced ages.
‘Look, there’s a reason pilots can’t fly after 65. There’s a reason military – they make you retire before 65,’ the former United Nations Ambassador added. ‘We have serious issues.’
‘None of that is normal behavior from either one of them,’ she said in reference to Biden allowing open borders and focusing on gender pronouns in schools and Trump ‘mocking military members’ by questioning the whereabouts of her deployed husband.
‘What I’m saying is Americans are saying in polls 70 percent that they want normal again, they don’t want chaos. They don’t want this mess,’ she added.
The issue of age comes amid rising concerns specifically over Biden’s fitness for office after a DOJ report released this month labels the president as an ‘elderly man’ with a ‘poor memory’ and ‘diminished faculties.’
