The NRL’s historic double-header in Las Vegas will be a star-studded affair thanks in part to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The PM has intervened in the visa application process for some NRL stars to ensure they could travel to Las Vegas.
Brisbane Broncos sensation Reece Walsh and Sydney Roosters star Brandon Smith were among 12 players and officials who had to travel to the US embassy in Sydney for interviews about their visa applications due to past off-field discretions.
Anthony Albanese fast tracks visa approvals for NRL stars to Las Vegas
The pair was not immediately approved to enter the US and had their applications referred to higher immigration officials for a final decision – which usually takes two to three weeks.
It is understood Mr Albanese then stepped in, and with the support of Australia’s US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, the visas were issued within 24 hours.
The move means the NRL’s highly anticipated season opener in Sin City will go ahead with some of its biggest stars.
