Rail station toilet rape remains unsolved - police

An e-fit was released of a man police would like to speak to

Transport police are still investigating nearly two and a half years after a woman was raped in the toilets of one of the UK’s busiest railway stations.

The attack happened at Birmingham New Street in August 2021 and saw a woman targeted at about 05:30 BST after a night out with friends.

It prompted a British Transport Police appeal in December 2022, when officers released an e-fit of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the incident.

But one year on from the appeal and almost two and a half years after the attack, detectives are yet to make an arrest.

The computer generated e-fit showed a white man with short light hair and green eyes.

Officers said an unidentified man tried to talk to the victim as she smoked a cigarette outside the station.

He is then alleged to have attacked the woman in one of the station’s toilets.

Last year, detectives said they had made a number of inquiries since the incident was reported.

They hoped the man depicted in the e-fit might be able to assist them further in the investigation.

But a British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed this week he was never found.

“There have been no arrests in connection with this investigation,” the force said.

“We urge anyone with information to contact BTP. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
