King Charles hands workers a pay rise in thanks ahead of Coronation anniversary
Staff working for King Charles will get a pay rise as the monarch marks one year on from the coronation
Royal staff have been given a pay boost one year on from the coronation.
King Charles has marked the first year of being crowned monarch by giving courtiers and royal aides a raise. A boost of 6% has been ordered for palace employees earning under £35,000, while those one above the threshold will get a 5.5% raise.
The royals have a huge team behind them when it comes to everything fom the upkeep of palaces and grounds to trustworthy advisors and people to help them dress for important occasions. One insider described the changes to their pay packets as a “morale boost”.
Recent jobs advertised for the royal house hold include an event security co-ordinator for the King, paying £30,000 a year, to a telephone operator for £26,000. Buckingham Palace also recently posted a listing with a vacancy for a £50,000-a-year expert on tracking and reducing carbon emissions.
“It’s easy to forget how hard people work behind the scenes at the Palace but the King’s not done so,” an insider told The Sun. “He and Camilla have had a lot to be worried about with his cancer diagnosis but clearly he’s thinking about others too. This is a real morale boost for staff.”
News of the pay rise comes a year on from the May 6 coronation when he was officially crowned King in a Westminster Abbey ceremony watched from across the planet. Since then, the 75-year-old has received the devastating news he has cancer following surgery at a private clinic in London in February.
Buckingham Palace confirmed his diagnosis but has not shared which type of cancer he currently has, although it’s understood not to be prostate cancer. His health scare chimed with Princess of Wales Kate’s own cancer news, as she revealed in March she was also being treated for the disease.
The King returned to public duties last week, with his first engagement since the news a visit to the Macmillan Cancer Centre in London where he met patients who were also battling the disease. It’s understood he and Queen Camilla will mark the first anniversary privately on Monday.
