Kia Australia has recalled 3948 examples of the EV6, as the electric SUV could lose power due to a software fault.
A global recall for the fault was issued last month, affecting almost 170,000 Hyundai Motor Group electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide – including 56,016 Kia EV6s.
“Due to a software issue, the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may develop an internal fault causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and the 12 Volt battery to stop charging. This could result in a loss of motive power,” Kia said in its recall notice.
“A loss of motive power may occur if the warning lights are ignored which could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

If you own an affected vehicle, Kia says you should immediately contact your preferred Kia dealer to schedule an appointment to have the ICCU software upgraded and the ICCU inspected and replaced, if required, free of charge.
Kia Australia’s Customer Service hotline can be contacted by calling 13 15 42 for more information.
