Kepong businesses bracing for floods
Dirty and narrow drainage along the industrial and commercial areas blamed for floods.
HEAVY rain in Kepong has sparked concerns of flash floods in Jinjang Utara industrial area, a crucial hub for manufacturing.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping attributes this problem to narrow drains that are also poorly maintained.
He said the drains had not been properly maintained for years.
“We have voiced our concerns, but nothing has been done,” he said.
Rapid development has strained the existing drainage system, creating a bottleneck for rainwater, he said.
He added that areas from Taman Sri Segambut to Jalan Kepong were particularly vulnerable due to inadequate drainage.
Yee said the neglect of the drainage system had worsened the situation.
He said the drains simply could not handle the water volume, and downhill areas from Jalan Kepong to Taman Sri Segambut and Sungai Keroh would likely be affected as well.
Yee said widening the drainage along the road might improve the water blockage in the bustling industrial area.
However, he said a more permanent solution was needed.
“We urge Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to intervene, with upgrades to the drainage network and Alam Flora to do a quick cleaning.
“Local businesses and residents near the area are looking for a comprehensive solution,” he reiterated.
