KAVACH implementation in India and abroad: RailTel signs MoU with tech firm to deliver this safety-enhancing system across borders

The Indian Railways on Wednesday finalised an agreement with a technology firm to accelerate the deployment of the KAVACH train collision avoidance system both in India and internationally. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between RailTel Corporation of India Limited and Quadrant Future Tek Limited to facilitate this partnership.

RailTel explained that the agreement with the technology firm encompasses the exploration and execution of KAVACH implementation projects within India and internationally. It emphasized that the MoU establishes a structured partnership wherein Quadrant will exclusively collaborate with RailTel to pursue targeted opportunities related to KAVACH.

What is KAVACH?
The Kavach is also known as the automatic train protection system and plays a crucial role in abating accidents. It works as a shield in an emergency when a driver fails to take the required action, Kavach comes into play and applies brakes in auto mode.
According to RailTel, implementing KAVACH across the Indian Railways network is crucial for the national transporter. The system attained the status of a “National ATP System” following its adoption by the Ministry of Railways in July 2020.
RailTel further mentioned that Quadrant Future Tek Limited is currently undergoing the final approval process by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the KAVACH project.

Asserting its capabilities, RailTel stated that it possesses an internal team of experts in Railway Signalling Systems fully equipped to undertake extensive upgrade projects like KAVACH. Both companies have their expertise and are ready to deal with the opportunities related to the KAVACH project.
Sanjai Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of RailTel, elaborated on the organization’s commitment to supporting the Indian Railways in implementing indigenous safety systems like KAVACH and expressed intentions to extend the technology’s reach overseas.
