Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to battle for Appollis

22-year-old Polokwane winger Oswin Appollis didn’t feature much for Bafana at Afcon, but his mere presence at the tournament is indicative of his sharp rise in the game. Soweto rivals Chiefs and Pirates can see his potential and might find ‘Rise and Shine’ receptive to a sale.

“Pirates and Chiefs are interested in Appollis. And the good thing for them, or any other interested club, is that Polokwane City is open to selling. The club won’t stand in the player’s way and for them, it will be a matter of cashing in. This applies to any player that they were taking a chance on when signing. Appollis is a talented youngster with a lot of potential, but at the time of his signing, he needed a fresh start. He needed that in the big league, and Polokwane City was willing to offer him that opportunity. He has done well, and the club won’t stand in his way if there is an opportunity for him to grow further,” said the source to Soccer-Laduma.

KAIZER CHIEFS FACE ANOTHER MASSIVE WEEK

In 18 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature. What’s next? A midweek encounter with Golden Arrows on Tuesday 5 March is followed up by a massive Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates on Saturday 9 March.
