Johns' big Cleary call

Eddie again to you gents. Andrew, it was the Nathan Cleary show out there tonight. Yeah just talking about it. I I think it’s his best performance we’ve seen ever. Yeah I think most definitely I think yeah you’re looking at the grand final. Last year the final 16 minutes from Nathan was was remarkable but tonight just a complete performance. He had everything. He he we know he’s a strong defender. He kicked well. His goal kicking was was fantastic but the ball playing ability and the way to manipulate the Broncos defence tonight was just incredible. I know you spoke a lot about this one Joey, but just the the ability to hide the football, to make Broncos defenders move and to Createspace for his men on the outside is just unbelievable. But he’s showing that ball but out of his left eye. He’s watching and then here he looks long and then he’s watching the winger and he waits for Arthur’s to go out and holds it back. When he first started his career, Nathan 2006, I think. I think he played you guys first up. Yeah, debuted against us and I thought controlled but didn’t create enough, didn’t take enough risks. No, I think probably that’s Nathan’s his personality. He’s pretty sort of laid back, sort of guy, introverted, but as his careers got on the last couple of years he’s evolved how he’s played so much. Yeah, absolutely. I think, you know when he first started he he was very low risk the way he played and and quite controlled. He still is very controlled in the way that he plays but he doesn’t mind playing with a bit of risk in his game now and he’s and he’s happy to take the line on plenty of times. That’s the one strong part of particularly his offence is he loves taking the line on and asking questions. The great thing about his game is that when you think about NFL right and you think about the quarterback, they’ve got like a playbook in their head. And I think that’s the same the way Nathan Calibri plays. He’s got numerous amounts of set pieces, set plays, one off plays that he can go to and he’s just got his role players all around him that know their exact role. When he calls that play and he just pulls the trigger on on the right, the right pass, the right run, the right kick at the right time. Phil Gould was on the Sunday Footy Show on the award when he turned it up segment and he spoke about young half backs coming through and he said the best half backs are the students of the game. I’ve no doubt Nathan’s been watching rugby league since he’s been five and then picking the best parts out of each half back Jonathan Thirst and Cooper Krong. Other half back Andrew Johns thank you and he’s picking the best parts out of that and putting it into his game. At the moment I’m watching him play and and every week he seems to be evolving his game somewhere but going across field, dummy and under, turning players inside, as Jonathan Thurston spoke to him on the panel, which I thought was amazing. Listen to the two great halfback, that’s something that’s that’s come up this year. I’m just fascinated by the end of the year where his game’s going to get to and how he’s going to be playing well. It’s a sign of a champion player, right? You know, Nathan could be really happy. He could sit back for the rest of his career and be happy with what he’s achieved already. Multiple premierships with the Penrith Panthers. He’s played State of Origin. He’s placed, He’s played Test football for the Kangaroos. But this is a guy when you watch him play, he’s not happy with what he’s done in his career. He’s got plenty of years left ahead of him and he’s just continually looking to learn and get better like we’ve seen tonight. Final frontier for him. Origin. Origin. He’s got an Origin series and he’s aware of that. I’ve spoke to Nathan about that. Let’s hope it’s this year. Let’s hope not from a Queen’s point of view as a as a fan of the game to be here tonight. Similar to the grand Final, I thought his Grand final was the greatest individual performance in a grand final, but to be here tonight to watch him it it’s a pleasure to be here.
