Jeremy Allen White in Talks to Play Bruce Springsteen in Biopic from A24: Reports

A movie based on the development of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 album ‘Nebraska,’ titled ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere,’ is in the works

Jeremy Allen White is taking on the Boss.

White, 33, is reportedly in talks to play Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming movie titled Deliver Me from Nowhere, which would follow the rock icon during the creation of his 1982 album Nebraska. Variety reports that A24 is circling the project, which originates from author Warren Zanes’ 2023 non-fiction book of the same name.

Scott Cooper, a filmmaker whose recent works include 2022’s The Pale Blue Eye and 2021’s Antlers, is writing a script and plans to direct the movie, per reports.

Representatives for Allen White did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment Wednesday.

Nebraska made for Springsteen’s sixth studio album after he broke out in the music industry in the 1970s. The musician famously recorded the 10-song album on his own while he and the E Street Band were in the process of making other music, including their well-known 1984 album Born in the U.S.A.

“Nebraska expressed a turmoil that was reflective of the mood of the country, but it was also a symptom of trouble in the artist’s life, the beginnings of a mental breakdown that Springsteen would only talk about openly decades after the album’s release,” reads an official description of Zanes’ book about the album’s making on Penguin Random House’s website.

Both Springsteen and his manager John Landau are involved in the in-the-works biopic, as Deadline reported Tuesday. Springsteen, known by his nickname “The Boss,” won an Academy Award at the 66th Oscars in 1994 for writing and performing the song “Streets of Philadelphia” from the film Philadelphia.

While Springsteen’s life has not been put to the screen before in a biopic, the musician’s legacy and impact was explored in the 2019 film Blinded by the Light, which follows a British Muslim teenager in 1980’s England who finds inspiration in Springsteen’s music.

White last appeared on the big screen in 2023’s The Iron Claw, in which he played the late professional wrestler Kerry Von Erich opposite Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich. The actor is coming off a series of awards season wins for his FX series The Bear, having recently taken home trophies at the 2023 Emmy Awards, 2024 Golden Globes and 2024 Critics Choice Awards in January and at the 2024 SAG Awards in February.
