Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson has called for “more flexibility” in the Australian Defence Force as it “shouldn’t require” people to split up their family every couple of years.
James Paterson calls for ‘more flexibility’ in the ADF
The Coalition is promising to invest billions of dollars into the defence sector if elected.
The funding is designed to strengthen the Australian Defence Force and address a workforce shortage.
“The Shadow Minister for Defence, Andrew Hastie, will announce more details closer to the election, but I think the principles are clear,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia.
“Service in the ADF shouldn’t require you to split up your family or move around the country every couple of years.
“In the modern world, where both partners in a relationship typically work, it’s a much greater burden than it once was to be rotating families around.
“We need more flexibility in the ADF.”
