Ireland 'heatwave' hope as glorious weather maps show exact date temperatures to top 20C

Met Eireann has confirmed the weather news that Ireland has been hoping for, promising that conditions will soon take a turn for the better.

After seemingly months of unsettled weather, high pressure is forecast to return this week, which will favour clear skies and warm sunshine.

The national forecaster said: “High pressure is going to dominate the weather, bringing mostly dry conditions for much of the time, with a mix of cloud and sunshine and mostly light winds. It’s going to gradually become warmer too, with above average temperatures expected.”

The glorious weather U-turn is expected to begin from tomorrow, May 7, with 20C heat forecast. The warm spell will last for at least five days, with temperatures increasing through the week.

Thermometers could hit 21C towards the end of this week, which would make Ireland as hot as Istanbul. Even nighttime temperatures will remain balmy, occasionally not falling below 12C.

However, the welcome weather change is unlikely to be classified as an official heatwave. Heatwaves are often defined as five days of consecutive above average temperatures, but Met Eireann previously told the Irish Mirror: “That is a working definition used by some other met offices, but the Met Eireann definition of a heatwave is five consecutive days of temperatures above 25C.”

Giving a day-by-day breakdown of what to expect this week, the national forecaster said: “A mostly dry day Tuesday with good spells of sunshine. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly in the east. Highest temperatures of 15C to 20C generally, mildest in inland parts of Leinster, in light variable breezes. It’ll be slightly cooler though in north Ulster and in some coastal parts. Dry and mostly clear to start Tuesday night before cloud builds from the west with the odd spot of light rain or drizzle possible near coasts by morning. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 10C, coolest over Ulster. Light southerly or variable breezes will allow some mist and fog to develop.

Staying largely dry elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C, coolest near coasts, in light southwesterly or variable breezes.Rain in the north will clear away through Wednesday night, becoming largely dry with clear spells developing. Temperatures not falling below 8C to 12C with light southerly breezes.

“Dry with hazy spells of sunshine in the morning Thursday. Through the afternoon and evening, cloud will build from the west. Highest temperatures of 16C to 19C or 20C with light southwesterly breezes. Mostly dry Thursday night though cloud will build from the west through the night with further spots of light rain or drizzle possible in the north. Temperatures not falling below 9C to 12C in light southerly breezes.
