Sainsbury’s and Waitrose customers are being urged to check their cupboards after an urgent recall notice was issued for a dip that may contain pieces of glass.

It concerns Patak’s Aubergine Pickle, which is sold exclusively at those two supermarkets.

The warning on the Food Standard Agency website states: ‘The possible presence of glass makes this product unsafe to eat.

‘If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.’

Pack size – 312g

Batch code – 3172

Best before – June 2026

In a statement, a Patak’s spokesperson said: ‘Patak’s is taking the precautionary step of recalling a limited number of 312g jars of Aubergine Pickle sold in some Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores in the UK.

‘The decision has been taken out of an abundance of caution and is linked to the very low possibility of a possible presence of glass.

‘No other Patak’s products, batch codes or vest before dates are affected.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’

Last week, Doritos issued a recall of one of its products after it emerged an undeclared ingredient could pose an allergy risk.

The FSA said the warning related to its Tangy Cheese flavour because soya was not declared on the ingredients list.

Earlier in February, Ambrosia recalled a selection of miniature custard and rice pudding pots over fears they may contain pieces of plastic.

The FSA’s warning stated the ‘My Mini Pots’ desserts could have presented ‘a possible choking hazard’ making them unsafe to eat.
