Late penalty seals dramatic win for AmaZulu FC over Chippa United

In a thrilling DStv Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium, AmaZulu FC staged a comeback to secure a vital 2-1 victory against Chippa United, enhancing their prospects for a top-eight finish.

Chippa United took an early lead through Sinoxolo Kwayiba’s clinical strike in the eighth minute, setting the stage for an intense battle. However, AmaZulu’s determination shone through as they pressed forward, with Taariq Fielies coming close to equalizing just minutes later.

AmaZulu manager Pablo Franco Martin’s half-time substitutions injected new energy into AmaZulu’s attack, with Hendrick Ekstein and Junior Dion making impactful contributions off the bench.

Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Moremi capitalized on Augustine Mulenga’s headed pass to draw level.

As the game approached its climax, AmaZulu intensified their assault, with Junior Dion narrowly missing a header that could have put them ahead. The defining moment arrived in added time when Celimpilo Ngema was fouled in the box, awarding AmaZulu a crucial penalty. Hendrick Ekstein stepped up to coolly convert from the spot, sealing a dramatic victory.

Chippa United’s woes were compounded in the dying moments as Roscoe Pietersen received a red card for violent conduct, leaving them with ten men.
