Iqaluit elders show off traditional fashion made from trash

Elders revealed their creations using traditional knowledge. They designed outfits made from scratch with only garbage bags and tape. Giuseppe Kanayak has made burka with silk skin before, but says that this was more difficult. We’re using just garbage bag and tape, and the tape attached really fast. You got to be patient with it. Along with you got to be patient with seal skin and the material. This one is the most difficult that I made parka out of garbage bags. One elder was inspired by a design or family used to make an item. Shinsen teach people how to make amali with more traditional fabrics. She says the soft fabric was difficult to work with, but adds she was happy with the final result or arrange a multi won first place. Since some little girl my my grandmother or my mom used to have a market like that, the square one on the bottom. And obviously one I have, I never met like that yet. And I make the different amounts now. Now I can use my pattern. Now I’m not using them winning, I’m making the same. It was awesome and they’re very creative and they used, they didn’t use any. They did it from their mind, so it came out the way they wanted to see them. This is just one of the events from the Tunic Time Festival. It’s wrapping up, it’s wrapping up this weekend. An organizer are already looking forward to 60th anniversary.
