Retiree pleads guilty for accepting RM500 bribe from caterer
SEREMBAN: A 61-year-old retiree pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to a charge of soliciting and accepting RM500 from an individual providing catering services.
Abdul Rahman Kassim, who was then working as an administrative assistant at the Jelebu District and Land Office, did not contest the charge after it was read to him before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.
He was charged with accepting the bribe from the individual, whom he had recommended to provide food and drinks at a meeting between the district officer and the district office staff as well as a farewell event for those retiring.
However, the food and drinks were never provided.
Abdul Rahman was charged with committing the offence on Dec 17, 2021 at a stall in Kg Peradong in Jelebu.
He was charged under section 165 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both upon conviction.
The court then fixed March 15, for sentencing and allowed the accused, who was unrepresented, to be released on a RM5,000 bail.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Mohamad Azriff Firdaus Mohamad Ali prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
