New B&M discount store in Clowne 'off to a flying start' after grand opening

A Derbyshire village is enjoying a new addition to its roster of shops following the grand opening of a new B&M discount store. The retailer has taken possession of Clowne’s former Wilko and has completed a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme.

The store’s launch has created in excess of 30 jobs for local people on the site, which has a huge 13,869 square feet of floor space. A spokesperson for the store says that customers can expect to find a “wide variety” of branded groceries for the best possible price including a range of food, drink and pet food.

There is also a selection of health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games and plenty more. The colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community.

They chose the team from Just Good Friends Club charity to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store at the grand opening on Saturday (February 17). Just Good Friends Club is a registered charity that supports adults with learning disabilities. They provide a safe and friendly environment in which members enjoy both evening and daytime social events.

This allows them to not only offer a respite for family and carers, but it also allows members the freedom to explore new activities independently. To ensure that all members get their voices heard, a committee is held in each club where members can put forward their ideas for activities and events, so their service is amazing for all.

In addition to opening the store, the team will also receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue doing the great work they do.

The store manager said: “It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors; the feedback so far has been fantastic. A big thank you to the team at the Just Good Friends Club who helped us open the store; we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do.”

B&M operates out of more than 700 high street and out-of-town stores across the UK. Following the closure of Wilko stores across the UK, many Wilko sites have transformed into B&M stores, including Allestree’s Wilko at Park Farm Shopping Centre.
