An 33-year-old influencer has faced backlash after she admitted that she still lives at home with her mother and never learnt to drive.

Elle McNamara, from Buxton, Derbyshire, makes videos about hair, beauty and skincare and boasts more than 600,000 followers on Instagram under the handle Bambi Does Beauty.

While she primarily uses her platform to give beauty advice, she also posts videos about things she wished she knew when she was younger and how to know whether men are into you.

But on Instagram, she opened up about her life and posted a short clip of her applying lip balm and wrote text over the top that said: ‘Things I do that people consider weird at my age.’

She then revealed that she still lives at home with her mother and admitted that her 62 and 72-year-old parents are her ‘best friends’.

Elle added that she has been single for 14 years – almost half of her life – and that she doesn’t go out or go on dating apps.

The millennial said she ‘doesn’t dream of having kids’ and admitted that the older she gets, the ‘more introverted I become’.

Despite being able to learn how to drive at 17, Elle admitted that she never learnt to drive, which commenters criticised due to her parent’s age.

One wrote: ‘Learning how to drive is a necessity and considering your parent’s age you should for their sake.’

Another penned: ‘That driving thing is such a disadvantage for you and everyone around you…’

A third wrote: ‘Once her parents pass she’s going to have a hard time.’

The influencer also added that she doesn’t enjoy the taste of alcohol, but she isn’t alone, as younger people are turning away from drinks in favour of coffees and health juices.

Just 27 per cent  of UK Gen Zers say they currently consume alcohol, compared to 47 per cent of Boomers, according to research last year from Canvas8, a consumer insights agency.

The content creator captioned the video: ‘It’s ok to live a life others don’t understand.’

Instagram users commented their opinions and said Elle needed to experience more

But Instagram users were less than impressed and told Elle to get out of her comfort zone and experience more.

One wrote: ‘The problem with living in your comfort zone is that it gets smaller and smaller the more time you spend in it.’

Another said: ‘You’re becoming more introverted because you don’t do anything.’ This was followed by another comment telling Elle to ‘try doing more things’.

A third penned: ‘I ask this as someone who has already lost one parent fairly young. Family seems important to you, but when your parents pass away what sense of “family” will you have left if you’ve not met a partner or made strong social bonds?’
