India Weather Updates: Rainfall likely in THESE states after severe heatwave conditions

Heatwave conditions and scorching heat affected several states across India on Sunday with temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius in many places.

However, the India Meteorological Department has predicted some relief from the harsh weather in some eastern states and parts of southern peninsular India this week.

IMD reported that severe heatwave conditions persisted in Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Jharkhand. The maximum temperatures recorded were four to seven degrees Celsius above normal in these places. Furthermore, the weather department has issued an orange alert due to the heat in most districts of Karnataka, several of which are going to polls on Tuesday. Temperatures reached 42 to 44 degrees Celsius in the past few days in Karnataka’s districts.

The weather agency has also issued an orange alert for 13 districts in Telangana till Monday. The maximum temperature recorded in Hyderabad was nearly 44 degrees Celsius, IMD reported.

In Odisha, the maximum temperature in almost all districts was nearly 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, recorded a temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which was two notches above normal and the highest temperature recorded so far.

However, in the northeastern state of Assam, rain lashed in several parts, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat. IMD has forecasted thunderstorms and strong winds in a few regions across Assam between May 6 and May 7.

All educational institutions in Manipur will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the intense rainfall. Heavy rain with hailstorms struck several parts of Manipur on Sunday, damaging houses and vehicles.

Most states in northeast India might receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand might receive light to moderate rainfall between May 6 and May 9.

Telangana might also receive rainfall and thunderstorms between May 6 and May 8.
