An American podcaster has sparked outrage among Australians after saying she has a problem with people using the word ‘brekkie’.
Jennifer Welch, who co-hosts the podcast I’ve Had It with Ange Sullivan, admitted she managed to ‘p**s off an entire country’ after detailing her distain of the Aussie slang term.
‘I’ve had it with people calling breakfast, ‘brekkie’. Stop,’ she said.
‘Quit putting on your Instagram ‘brekkie in bed’, ‘going to brekkie with my boo’,’
‘Put a sock in it. Quit making up cute words for your performative Instagram posts.
‘Stop, for the love of God, calling breakfast, ‘brekkie’.’

Another fan said: ‘I think you need do a deep dive into Australian slang.’
‘Australia is shook right now,’ a third joked.
Ms Welch took to TikTok on Saturday to an issue an apology saying ‘We accidentally waged war on Australia’.
The co-host told Ms Sullivan how she had ‘really walked into it’.
‘So, I’d had it with the word ‘brekkie’. Well, in Australia, that is what they call ‘breakfast’ exclusively, is ‘brekkie’,’ Welch said.
‘I want the country of Australia to know that I’m specifically talking about American – United States of America, Americans – influencers, on Instagram, that could not find Australia on a map with both hands and a flashlight.
‘These are the people that I’ve had it with. I’ve not had it with Australia, or Australians.
‘And now we have to go on the Aussie redemption tour.’

‘Australian here.. I will never say brekky because I’m an adult,’ another said.
‘I have never called breakfast brekkie. Literally born in Australia. Maybe it’s a Sydney/ Melbourne thing,’ a third fan wrote.
