SHAH ALAM – The recent revelation about Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s affidavit concerning the house arrest of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has triggered various responses.
Many politicians, particularly within the party, are calling for further government clarification to prevent the issue from escalating into a dispute.
The report of an additional decree allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest has captured public interest and raised questions.
This is particularly notable because the Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had previously stated his unawareness of any such additional decree from the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The apparent contradiction has prompted Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to demand an explanation from the government.
Kelantan Umno Chief has also urged the government to address the emerging information to avoid any perception of manipulation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree.
Given the circumstances, speedy government action is necessary to prevent this emerging issue from festering and potentially leading to disputes.
It’s essential to note that the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is imminent, and failure to address or explain this matter promptly could result in the Opposition exploitation of it during the upcoming election.
