In der dänischen Hauptstadt Kopenhagen beraten am Montag mehrere europäische Minister, wie sie die illegale Migration nach Europa stoppen oder zumindest eindämmen können. Österreichs Innenminister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) nimmt ebenfalls an der Konferenz teil, auch die „Krone“ wird vor Ort sein.

Inhaltlich geht es in erster Linie um Migrationskooperation mit Drittstaaten. Österreich und Dänemark sind enge Partner im Kampf gegen die illegale Migration und Vorreiter in Europa, wenn es um die Zusammenarbeit mit Drittstaaten im Bereich Migration geht.

Karner und Bek gemeinsam in der tunesischen Wüste

Beide Länder haben gemeinsam beim Aufbau eines Trainingszentrums für Grenzschutzbeamte in Tunesien geholfen und dieses im November 2023 eröffnet. Karner und sein dänischer Amtskollege Kaare Dybvad Bek waren vor Ort. Das Zentrum befindet sich in der tunesischen Wüste bei der Stadt Nefta.

Bei der Konferenz in Kopenhagen sollen neue Modelle zur Zusammenarbeit mit Drittstaaten erarbeitet werden. Dabei werden sich nicht nur EU-Mitgliedsstaaten untereinander abstimmen, sondern sich auch mit Drittstaaten und internationalen Experten zu neuen Möglichkeiten im Kampf gegen illegale Migration austauschen.

Hochrangig besetzte Konferenz

Teilnehmer der Konferenz sind neben Bek und Karner auch die Innen- und Migrationsminister aus Italien, den Niederlanden oder Tschechien, Vertreter von Drittstaaten wie Albanien, Tunesien und Mauretanien sowie EU-Kommissarin Ylva Johansson und internationale Experten.

„Wollen illegale Migration zurückdrängen“

„Die Zusammenarbeit mit Ländern außerhalb der EU, sogenannten Drittstaaten, im Bereich der Bekämpfung illegaler Migration ist das zentrale Thema dieser Konferenz. Wir wollen die organisierte Kriminalität im Feld der Schlepperei wirkungsvoll bekämpfen und damit die illegale Migration nach Europa und Österreich massiv zurückdrängen“, sagt Karner im Vorfeld.
