Thiago Silva has joined Chelsea’s long injury list to create a selection headache for Mauricio Pochettino ahead of tonight’s daunting trip to Manchester City.

The Blues lost the veteran centre-back to a groin injury during the second half of Monday night’s late 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Benoit Badiashile also injured his groin in the win by the same scoreline at Aston Villa in the FA Cup just one week ago.

The duo join Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia on a lengthy Chelsea injury list.

Robert Sanchez is back from a knee injury to compete with high-performing no2 Djordje Petrovic for the starting goalkeeper role.

But defensive options are limited, with Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell likely to start against Man City. Colwill has only just returned from injury but will likely be thrust straight back into the action.

The usual midfield three of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher will all continue, meanwhile.

Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer will likely start in a fluid front three, but Christopher Nkunku is also pushing for a recall to the lineup.

If Jackson picks up another booking, he will receive a two-match ban for accumulating 10 yellow cards already this season.

Predicted Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Petrovic; Gusto, Disasi, Colwill, Chilwell; Gallagher, Caicedo, Fernandez; Sterling, Palmer, Jackson

Injuries: Thiago Silva, James, Cucurella, Fofana, Ugochukwu, Lavia, Badiashile, Chukwuemeka
