I tried the Infinix Note 40 Pro, and the best thing about this phone is its MagSafe-like wireless charging

Android smartphone makers, especially the Chinese brands, spearhead charging innovation technologies, and most modern smartphones, even budget and mid-tier devices are capable of fully charging the battery in around an hour. However, when it comes to the versatility of charging techniques, they fail to offer variety, and this is where the Infinix Note 40 Pro clearly stands away from the crowd with its many charging-related techniques, including Apple iPhone-like MagSafe wireless charging Besides charging, Infinix has packed decent hardware, which makes it one of the unique phones in the market, here are my thoughts on the Note 40 Pro after using it as my primary device for over two weeks.

Looks unique and premium

The Note 40 Pro has a vegan leather back panel, which not only makes the phone look good but also makes it grippy to hold onto. And it also comes with a case, which, unlike most, doesn’t do much in terms of protecting the device, rather, it adds a new functionality — MagSafe-like wireless charging to the device, making it one of the cheapest phones to offer this functionality.

I personally liked this approach from Infinix, as adding magnets to the phone would have made it bulky and heavy, and with this modular approach, the company has managed to maintain the form factor without compromising on practicality.

The device also has a JBL-branded stereo speaker setup, however, the audio output isn’t that great and the speakers sound tiny, a bit more volume would have further elevated the overall content consumption experience.

Clearly a Note

Infinix Note 40 Pro

The Infinix Note 40 Pro deserves the moniker Note, thanks to its massive 6.78-inch FHD resolution curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which makes this a premium-looking smartphone, especially for those, who prefer a curved display, where, the company even includes a tempered screen protector inside the package.

With really narrow bezels and the punch hole cut out, it’s quite indistinguishable from devices such as the Moto Edge 50 Pro and even the OnePlus 12, which does cost a lot more than what Infinix is asking for.

During my usage, I quite liked how the display gets bright enough even under direct sunlight, and that’s not it, the colour reproduction is slightly on the vibrant side, which was very evident while streaming content on YouTube.

While this isn’t the most affordable phone with a curved display (Lava Blaze Curve (review) is) in the market, it is a close contender along with a few other benefits.

Average cameras

The Infinix Note 40 Pro has a triple camera setup, but the 108 MP primary sensor does all the heavy lifting, with the additional 2 MP sensors being mostly there for aesthetics. The primary cameras can take some sharp images but don’t expect too much, especially in low-light situations.

In daylight, the phones captured look sharp with plenty of details, and even shots taken in 3x digital zoom come out well. Here are some camera samples from the Infinix Note 40 Pro:

Software with a bit of AI magic

Infinix Note 40 Pro

The smartphones do not include any bloatware or third-party apps (Image credit: Vivek Umashankar/The Indian Express)

Compared to most Android smartphones, the Note 40 Pro comes with almost zero bloatware, and the company is promising two years of software support and three years of security updates, hence, the Note 40 Pro will receive Android 15 and Android 16 updates.

XOS 14 is a heavily skinned version of Android, however, it’s well-optimised for everyday usage. Except for occasional frame drops, while switching between the apps, the phone works as expected.

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 SoC with 8 GB RAM, and the device can handle casual gaming without any issues. Games like Temple Run 2 and Uno ran fairly smoothly, and in the CPU stress test, the phone offered a stability score of 73 per cent. Even with continued gaming, I did not notice any sort of overheating issues, and the phone remained cool to the touch.

Infinix has also sprinkled a bit of AI magic into the Note 40 Pro in the name of Folax AI, which offers features like a text generator, and grammar checker, and with a future software update, the company will introduce a wallpaper generator, which is already available in some markets. While the AI features on the Infinix Note 40 Pro are definitely not as robust as Galaxy AI, it’s clearly a step in the right direction.

A complete battery and charging solution

The Infinix Note 40 Pro comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with support for up to 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. It also supports bypass charging, which directly pumps power to the process while charging to reduce heat, it also has reverse wired and wireless charging. The battery, on average, can easily deliver over six hours of screen-on-time with regular usage.

The charging solution on this device is powered by a custom Cheetah X1 chip, which allows users to switch between various charging modes such as Hyper (fast) smart, and low-temp (keeps the device cool), depending on the requirement, users can choose between these three modes.

Similarly, Infinix has also made a lot of accessories including a MagCharge power bank, and a MagCharge charger, which are cross-compatible with the iPhone. In fact, even iPhone accessories like the MagSafe wallet and MagSafe charger are compatible with the Infinix Note 40 Pro.

Should you buy the Infinix Note 40 Pro?

The Infinix Note 40 Pro is clearly not an all-round smartphone, as things like camera and performance could have been a bit better. Instead, it has some really niche features and it’s also designed to look distinctive.

If you are looking for a phone under Rs 22,000 that looks premium and has features like a curved display, wireless charging, and a bloatware-free OS experience, the Infinix Note 40 Pro is a good device to consider.
