Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (10) is helped up after being injured during the second inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field.
The start of the 2024 season has been an absolute nightmare for the Chicago White Sox. Not only in the standings where they entered Tuesday’s game in Cleveland with a 1-9 record, but also with injuries.
They added another injury to the list on Tuesday night on the most routine play a baseball player can have — running to first base.
After hitting a bouncing ball to third base, White Sox infield Yoan Moncada was injured on his way to first base when he fell to the ground in obvious pain. He needed assistance leaving the field.
Officially the White Sox are calling it a left adductor strain and that he will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. But that still did not look good, and it is the last thing the White Sox need right now. They are already playing without Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert Jr., and Moncada has been one of the few bright spots in the lineup this season.
Entering play on Tuesday he was hitting .270 with a 121 OPS+ in 10 games (a 100 OPS+ being a league average hitter).
After losing 101 games a year ago this was always going to have the potential to be a long season for the White Sox. Losing the few potential impact players they have is only going to make it tougher.
