Unknown drones are regularly detected over training grounds in Germany, including those where Ukrainian military personnel are trained, according to Bild.
Member of the Bundestag from the Free Democratic Party and Defense Committee Marcus Faber has reported cases of “regular” detection of unknown drones near the Klitz training ground in Saxony. UAVs have also been observed near the training ground in Brandenburg, where Ukrainian military personnel are practicing with Leopard 1 tanks and other Bundeswehr facilities.
Faber noted that the surveillance of these facilities is organized and “clearly points to Russia.” However, proving this will be challenging until the drones or their operators are found.
The Bundeswehr also suspects Russian involvement in espionage, but concrete evidence is currently lacking.
Several German politicians have urged the Bundeswehr to enhance security and protection to counter such attacks. This includes the acquisition of modern jamming devices.
The position of Germany regarding Ukraine
Germany has become one of the countries providing military, political, and financial support to Ukraine. Berlin has supplied various types of artillery, Leopard tanks of older and newer modifications, air defense systems IRIS-T and Patriot, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and other weaponry.
Additionally, Germany announced that it would double its military aid to Ukraine to 8 billion euros next year.
Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz has also assisted Ukraine in matters of European integration.
