Developers have been given the green light to transform the site of a former seaside hotel in Cornwall into housing. Acorn Property Group will redevelop Cliff Hotel in Bude into 23 new homes including seven affordable ones.

The company has obtained a resolution to grant planning permission after gaining unanimous support from Cornwall Council’s East Sub-Area Planning Committee.

The site is located at Crooklets Beach – a 400m stretch of sandy beach just north of Bude town centre. The open-market housing will feature nine three- and four-bedroom houses, a two-bedroom bungalow, five three-bedroom duplex apartments and a four-bedroom penthouse.

Modern green initiatives planned for each home will include heat pumps, triple-glazed windows, integrated solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, Acorn said.

Bat boxes, bee bricks and bird boxes will also be integrated into the buildings and ‘green roofs’ are planned for select houses.

Stuart Brereton, regional managing director for Cornwall and Devon at Acorn Property Group, said:” We are absolutely thrilled to have obtained unanimous support for this exciting redevelopment. Our plans will deliver superbly designed new homes, set along the beautiful stretch of sandy Crooklets beach, with a modern fit-out that will provide inspiring spaces to live.

“We have taken careful consideration when planning the views into and from the site to make the most of the scenic local landscape.”

Acorn, which has offices in Bristol, Exeter, Cornwall, Cardiff and London, has a countrywide portfolio with a gross development value in excess of £1bn, including urban and rural locations, brownfield and greenfield sites, new build or conversions including listed buildings and numerous residential and commercial mixed-use sites.
