Hot and dry pattern coming to B.C. could be bad news for fire season
BC any rain that you get in the next 5 day period, that’s about it for several weeks. We’re looking at a very dry and hot pattern as we get into the early part of the fire season, not exactly the news that we would like. Now of course this will be the second week we knew that we would start things off kind of wet and unsettled and we have seen that and it’s helped the drought situation across Southern BC, not so much the north, but this Ridge of high pressure that’s going to be building in by about May 9th, 10th. So we’re talking about mid next week is going to stick around well into the next week after that. So now we’re Monday May 13th, May 14th, that continues. So into the long range. The second week of May, the precipitation anomaly is showing about less than 20% of normal precipitation. Meanwhile, look at east of the Rockies, where all those Blues are about 90% on the positive side of normal for precipitation. So a very wet pattern east of the Rockies. But on this side of the Rockies, not so much. In fact, with that Ridge, temperatures could be as much as 10 to 12° above their seasonal normal values. And remember, seasonals already kind of high as the sun gets stronger. At this time of year, so next Thursday, it’s pretty close to seasonal, but then we look ahead to next weekend Friday. Looking at 25 for Kelowna, not a cloud in the sky, likely across the interior Abbotsford at 26. Could Canada record its first 30°C temperatures next week? Next Saturday? It looks very possible that a Soyuz could do it.
