Sky News contributor Joe Hildebrand says the “absurd” decision by the Australian government to not respond to Ukraine’s request for retired helicopters shows the government are “bedevilled by minutia”.
‘Absurd’: Labor government ‘bedevilled by minutia’ with Ukraine’s plea for helicopters
Ukraine is pleading with the Australian government to donate its fleet of retired Taipan helicopters instead of dismantling and burying them.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was asked about this decision but blamed Defence public servants and said we are already doing plenty to help Ukraine.
“I really just do not understand this, and I think that Australian politics … are bedevilled by minutia,” Mr Hildebrand told Sky News contributor Steve Price.
“There’s no one actually looking at the overall big picture and saying, right, how can we make this work in both cases.
“Richard Marles … it seems like this request from Kyiv for more support for more equipment has just gotten lost in this Byzantine bureaucracy somewhere.
“It is absurd.”
