Baste remarks disturbing, inappropriate – Abalos
MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. has described as disturbing and inappropriate the remarks made by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and other local officials during a prayer rally in Cebu.
“As public officials, we should always ensure that we conduct ourselves in accordance with the dignity of our office,” Abalos said.
He said elected officials should set an example to their constituents as they represent their communities, most especially the youth who are watching.
“We should avoid using vulgar and abusive language. We can always communicate our opinions with civility. We must always keep in mind that the Code of Ethics of Public Officials requires that we carry ourselves with integrity, professionalism and respect to all our colleagues and the people,” Abalos said.
During the Hakbang ng Maisug Prayer Rally in Cebu on Sunday night, Duterte decribed the campaign promise of President Marcos to bring down the price of rice to P20 per kilo as the “greatest scam.”
“Let’s promote professionalism, good conduct and respect to the institutions that embody the aspirations and values of the Filipino people,” Abalos said.
