man jailed after 100mph car chase on rural roads

Police chased the defendant for about five miles through rural west Suffolk

A man has been jailed for a series of offences, following a 100mph (161kmh) police chase.

Junik Ferizaj, 25, failed to stop for officers as he drove his car in what police described as a “dangerous manner” through west Suffolk.

He was sentenced to 15 months in jail at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday.

PC Harry Tully said it was a “powerful example” of what Suffolk Constabulary’s Operation Sentinel teams do in the county.

During the incident, the Operation Sentinel team attempted to stop a black Toyota Prius outside Newmarket.

Ferizaj continued to drive the car for about five miles through Fordham and Isleham, Cambridgeshire, before being stopped on the BB1104, said police.

Ferizaj pleaded guilty to a string of offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, possession of cannabis and driving with no insurance.

He was also found guilty of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a lock knife, to which he had pleaded not guilty.

PC Tully continued: “We are determined to continue to make Suffolk a hostile environment for those involved in the drug supply chain and other serious offences that blight our communities and bring misery to many people.”

Ferizaj, of no fixed address, also received a 31-month driving ban at court.
