Heatwave alert today: Relief from heatwave! The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for rainfall across several regions in the country. In the past day, West Rajasthan experienced intense heat, with temperatures soaring above 45°C, and Phalodi recorded a scorching 46.2°C—the highest in the nation. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other regions witnessed heavy downpours, with hailstorms marking their presence in Madhya Pradesh and other areas.
A cyclonic circulation lies over north Bihar which is influencing conditions across several states. West Bengal and Sikkim are expecting widespread rain with thunderstorms and winds reaching 50 kmph until May 12th. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha expect similar weather conditions, with Odisha also preparing for heavy showers until May 14th. The northeastern states are set for a week of steady rainfall and thunderstorms.
Central Madhya Pradesh’s weather pattern is causing isolated rain and storms in nearby regions, with potential hailstorms. Madhya Pradesh is particularly bracing for strong thunderstorms and winds up to 60 kmph from the 10th to the 13th.
In the south, a cyclonic circulation lies over Kerala and an emerging trough is set to bring rain and thunderstorms to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and other southern states until the 14th. Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and other regions are also on alert for heavy rainfall.
Lastly, a circulation over Iran and another over northwest Rajasthan are contributing to the diverse weather patterns across the country giving a huge relief from the heatwave in that particular region.
