'Heartbreaking' final text before Luke Davies was allegedly murdered and his body was found dumped in a shallow grave

A heartbroken friend of Luke Davies has revealed the last message he received from the flight attendant before he was allegedly murdered.

Jesse Baird, 26, and Mr Davies, 29, had spent the night before their alleged killings partying at the Beresford Hotel club in Surry Hills with friends before returning to the ex-Channel 10 roving reporter’s $1.5million rented Paddington terrace home.

The couple were both shot by NSW Police Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon at the apartment around 9.50am on Monday, police allege.

Now, one of Mr Davies close friends has revealed that the Qantas flight attendant sent him a message just 20 minutes before his death.

‘We’d always send funny Instagram memes back and forth to each other and so I received one at 9:18 the morning of the incident, and it was a funny Instagram meme, followed by a crying laughter emoji, which is pretty much what Luke was like,’ close pal Dean Bailey told Sunrise.

‘You could picture him actually physically laughing as he sent that message.

‘To know that within 30 minutes after that, things took a turn for the worse and the unimaginable happened, it’s heartbreaking to think what went on from that message that he sent to me and then whatever happened in the 30 minutes that followed.’

Human remains belonging to Mr Davies and Mr Baird were discovered stuffed inside surf bags and buried in a lonely bush grave on Tuesday afternoon.

Their alleged killer allegedly hired a white rental van to transport their bodies to a remote farm property in Bungonia, around 180km south-west of Sydney.

It is alleged he then returned to the site to move the bodies to another location in Bungonia about 20 minutes’ drive away.

Mr Bailey said he had not ‘come to terms’ with his friend’s passing.

‘I wake up and I expect to get a message from Luke saying ‘Hi, I’m coming to Brisbane this weekend what are we doing?’ It’s heartbreaking to know that message is never going to come,’ Mr Bailey said.

Devastated relatives of Jesse Baird visited the bushland graves of the Channel 10 presenter and Mr Davies on Tuesday evening.

About 180km away on the same evening, shattered friends of Mr Baird and Mr Davies gathered at Bronte Beach for a vigil.

Lamarre-Condon is currently in Silverwater Correctional Complex, in Sydney’s west.

His matter is before the courts.

9.54am: Call to emergency services made from Jesse Baird’s phone but it disconnected

Tuesday, February 20

Lamarre-Condon makes partial admissions about his role in the deaths of Mr Baird and Mr Davies to a former police officer

Wednesday, February 21

11am: Bloodied belongings of Mr Davies and Mr Baird found in skip bin in the south of Sydney

Around midday, Lamarre-Condon allegedly heads south of Sydney to Bungonia with a female acquaintance

He allegedly stops at a store and buys an angle grinder and a padlock. He then buys weights and torches

He leaves the acquaintance at the gate of a rural property while he drives off for about 30 minutes

Thursday, February 22

4.30am: Constable Lamarre-Condon leaves the Bungonia area and heads to Newcastle where he allegedly uses a hose to clean the rented van

Friday, February 23

5am: He leaves Newcastle and drives to the south of Sydney

10.39am: Lamarre-Condon hands himself into police

2pm: He is charged with two counts of murder and refuses to cooperate with police

Monday, February 26

Police divers search several dams at a remote property in Bungonia, 180km south-west of Sydney, without finding any trace of the missing men

Tuesday, February 27

Two more crime scenes are sealed off at Grays Point, in Sydney’s south, close to Lamarre-Condon’s childhood home and at a location in the Royal National Park

11am: Lamarre-Condon agrees to speak to detectives and assist them in the hunt for the bodies

1pm: Two bodies stuffed into surf bags and partially hidden by rocks and debris are located 20 minutes’ drive away from the Bungonia dams that were searched on Monday
