Haryana CM Gives ‘Cryptic’ Response As Three Independent MLAs Defect To Congress, Bhupinder Hooda Dares BJP To Face Election
Nayab Singh Saini-led Haryana government on Tuesday saw itself in the middle of a big political crisis as it seems to have lost the majority in the state. This came after three independent MLAs–Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen and Dharampal Gonder– withdrew their support and switched sides to back the Congress. The trio has said they will be supporting the grand old party in the forthcoming Assembly polls. Reacting to the development, CM Saini rebuked the Congress party, asserting that the latter had nothing to do with the wishes of the people and they wanted to fulfil their own wishes.
On MLA defection, Saini said every lawmaker has wishes and the Congress party was fulfilling those wishes. “I have received this information. Some MLAs have their desires… Congress is fulfilling those desires, but people know everything. Congress is not concerned about the desires of people, but only about itself,” news agency PTI quoted Saini as saying.
Saini said the situation wasn’t alarming for them but did not explain how the crisis would be dealt with.
Former Haryana CM and Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said the BJP had no right to continue as they were in the minority. He also thanked the three independent MLAs for supporting the Congress.
“Keeping in mind the sentiments of the public, the MLAs supported the Congress, thanks to all the three independents. Along with the public, those who voted and supported the BJP are unhappy with this government. The BJP should immediately dissolve the government and face the assembly elections,” Hooda said while talking with media.
The 90-member Haryana Assembly currently has 88 MLAs. As many as 45 lawmakers are required to prove the majority. The Haryana Congress chief, Udai Bhan, claimed the BJP has only 40 MLAs supporting the government. “Nayab Singh Saini government is now a minority government. He should resign as he does not have the right to stay even for a minute,” he said.
