Sandra Marie, a home renovator based in the US, recently went viral on TikTok after she posted a video detailing a secret about the tool that many people may not have known.
She claimed that instead of twisting a screwdriver with your hand, you’re supposed to connect the end to a socket or wrench and use that to turn it – and the internet was stunned by her revelation.
‘Did you know that a screwdriver has all of these ridges so that you can attach a socket to it or a wrench to give it more torque?’ she asked her followers in the clip, which has now been viewed 1.9 million times.

‘So next time, if you’re really struggling to unscrew something, and you’re afraid you’re going to strip the screw, do this instead,’ the content creator added as she demonstrated by attaching a socket to it.
‘I just learned this and wanted to pass it on. Now that you know, go conquer the world,’ she captioned the video.
Many people took to the comment section to thank Sandra for sharing the trick.
‘Next time my husband struggles I’m gonna say come on didn’t you know that this is how you do it!? And roll my eyes,’ one person replied.
Another added, ‘Now I’m gonna go around asking all the guys I know if they know why the screwdriver has those indents cause now I do.’
‘I just casually told my husband this like I’ve known it my entire life and blew his mind,’ revealed someone else.
‘Well damn, you know how many times I’ve bruised my palms?’ read a fourth comment.
A fifth said, ‘I was today years old,’ with some clapping emojis.

Some people, however, claimed that Sandra’s information was not entirely accurate
‘I’ve literally been a handyman for five years. How did I not know this?’ asked a different user.
‘TikTok really teaches me way more than school/college ever did,’ joked someone else.
Some people, however, claimed that Sandra’s information was not entirely accurate.
‘It’s not made for that, it just so happens to work,’ insisted another user. ‘You brake your screwdriver if it’s too hard.’
‘False. It’s a convenient feature, but that’s not why the handle has ridges,’ said a different commenter.
‘It’s actually there just to improve overall grip on the screwdriver but this is still cool,’ wrote someone else.
‘Good luck. You’re going to ruin the end of the screwdriver,’ warned another person.
