Governments can ‘do what they will’: Former Brisbane mayor on 2032 Olympic Games
A federal inquiry has found the Queensland government is yet to begin tangible preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
It heard the Miles government had begun a ‘shadow review’ before former lord mayor Graham Quirk had finalised a 60-day venue review the premier asked him to lead.
Mr Quirk told the hearing he had been ‘blindsided’ by the move.
“It’s up to the government to do what they want to do,” Mr Quirk told Sky News Australia.
“We were engaged to do a job.
“We did that on the basis that it would be a genuinely independent set of recommendations, and we did that faithfully.
“At the end of the day, elected governments can do what they will.”
