Xbox Game Pass Confirms Day One Game for August 8

It’s been confirmed that SteamWorld Heist 2 will be a day one Xbox Game Pass game when it releases on August 8. Xbox Game Pass has had an impressive year so far, kicking things off with the smash hit Palworld and keeping the momentum going strong with a steady string of high-quality day one releases. Luckily for subscribers, there’s no sign that Xbox Game Pass’ momentum is slowing down anytime soon.

April 2024 alone has seen multiple impressive day one Xbox Game Pass games, with more on the way. For example, this coming week will see the launch of day one games like Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and Soulslike Another Crab’s Treasure. While most Xbox Game Pass subscribers are likely focused on what’s coming to the service in the more immediate future, it should be noted that games are being confirmed for later in the year as well.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers can now mark Thursday, August 8 on their calendars. That’s the day that SteamWorld Heist 2 will join the subscription service as a day one game. A sequel to the 2015 turn-based tactics game SteamWorld Heist, SteamWorld Heist 2 was revealed as the “one more thing” announcement at the end of the latest Nintendo Indie World showcase. The original SteamWorld Heist earned mostly positive reviews from critics, and so expectations are high for the sequel.

With SteamWorld Heist 2 coming to Xbox Game Pass on August 8, subscribers to the service will be able to play it in its entirety without paying more than their usual fee. Turn-based tactics is admittedly a niche genre, but if one isn’t excited about SteamWorld Heist 2, the good news is that there are plenty of other new games coming to Game Pass in the coming months as well.

May 2024 already has a few notable games for subscribers to look forward to, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 leading the pack. Launching May 21, Hellblade 2 is one of Xbox’s flagship game releases for 2024, and so it will be exciting to see if it lives up to expectations.

Looking a little bit later on the calendar, Rolling Hills is coming to Xbox Game Pass on June 4, while horror game Still Wakes the Deep has been pegged for a June 18 release. Frostpunk 2 is scheduled to join PC Game Pass on July 5, and STALKER 2 will finally be released on September 5. SteamWorld Heist 2 is currently the only day one game confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in August 2024, but fans can expect the month to start filling up with other titles sooner rather than later.
