2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado: New details for Australia

The Toyota LandCruiser Prado has been approved for sale in Australia, and a government filing has revealed some key specifications.

These include the vehicle’s tare mass and gross vehicle mass (GVM). These are the vehicle’s weight sans a full tank of fuel, and the maximum loaded weight including fuel, passengers, cargo and accessories, respectively.

The filings don’t include any powertrain details, nor do they specify any feature details apart from wheels – though Toyota Australia has already released spec lists ahead of the SUV’s launch in the second half of 2024.

Based on this information, in conjunction with data in the filing, the local range should be as follows:

The outgoing Prado has a claimed GVM across the range of 2990kg.

Toyota has also had other variants certified for sale, for example a variant combining a seven-seat configuration and a sunroof. This isn’t unusual for a carmaker to do, as it allows it to introduce additional variants later.

Ground clearance is 210.5mm with 265/65R18 tyres and 220.6mm when equipped with 265/70R18 or 265/60R20 tyres.

Height ranges from 1925mm to 1984mm, depending on specification.

All Australian-delivered Toyota LandCruiser Prados will continue to be powered by a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, now with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance.

However, there are no changes to the Prado’s outputs, which remain at 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

The four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine is exclusively mated to a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission (up two ratios from the outgoing model), which incorporates low-range gearing and sends power to all four corners through a full-time all-wheel drive system.

All versions of the new Toyota Prado have a 3500kg braked towing capacity, up 500kg on its predecessor.

A turbocharged 2.4-litre hybrid four-cylinder powertrain offered in markets like North America has yet to be confirmed for our market.
